Childhood

Born amidst the ancient trees skirting the Skatay Range, Marthe initially embraced the Viera lifestyle, honing survival skills under the guidance of an elder mentor. Despite his capabilities as a Wood-warder, he felt uncomfortable with the prospect of traditional mating rituals and began questioning his place within the tribe. However, as he matured, the prospect of returning to the village for mating rituals filled him with discomfort. Unaware of his own sexuality, Marthe's aversion to mating with females deepened, leading him to question his place within the tribe.The arrival of a red-headed Miqo'te adventurer from Corvos, the first outsider he had ever met, changed everything. Their brief encounter sparked a curiosity about the world beyond the trees.

After the Miqo'te departed, Marthe found himself torn between the familiarity of Viera traditions and the allure of the unknown. Seeking guidance, Marthe turned to his mentor, who presented him with a choice: adhere to Viera traditions or venture forth into the world beyond, with no chance of return.Ultimately, driven by a desire to discover his true self and break free from the constraints of tradition, Marthe chose to leave the forest behind.▲ TOP | MENU ▼

Life beyond the forest

Marthe adopted the name 'Marthe Rozenkreuz' from his favourite books and embarked on a nomadic life as a travelling mage.Reconnecting with the same Corvosi Miqo'te, now a gleaner for Old Sharlayan, love blossomed as they journeyed together.Marthe also found comfort in arts and crafts, using them as a way to find peace within. His journey into art started with simple sketches and paintings, evolving into a more profound expression with watercolours, a thoughtful gift from his Miqo'te lover.

Together, they traversed the realms, sharing adventures, and delving into the mysteries of the world. He was kind, warm, and loving. Marthe embraced his own sexuality, and they decided to settle in the Royal City of Rabanastre, the capital city of Dalmasca Kingdom.▲ TOP | MENU ▼

Garlean Occupation of Dalmasca

Eventually, peace was shattered when the Garlean invaded Dalmasca. The relentless march of the Garlean Empire shattered Marthe's world. His lover fell in the war, leaving Marthe emotionally scarred.Recognized for his exceptional talents as a mage, Marthe's fate was sealed as he was involuntarily conscripted into the Garlean forces. Despite the turmoil, Marthe's intellect remained formidable, his mastery of aetheric manipulation unmatched as he delved into learned discourses with remarkable speed.

Marthe initially served under the IVth Imperial Legion, stationed at Castrum Amicitia, which previously was known as 'Nalbina Fortress'. Emotionally shattered, he transformed into a seemingly soulless figure, suppressing his pain to cope with the harsh reality of fighting alongside those responsible for taking his beloved. His soul was gradually eroded by the atrocities committed under Garlean command.Bestowed with Garlean citizenship and the rank of Optio, he became 'Marthe pyr Rozenkreuz'.▲ TOP | MENU ▼

Meeting the Boy

Amid conflict, Marthe stumbled upon an orphaned Miqo'te boy near Castrum Oriens, where he was stationed at that time. The boy's features bore an uncanny resemblance to Marthe's departed lover.The Miqo'te boy had no recollection of his past, possibly afflicted by dissociative amnesia. In response, Marthe adopted him and gave him the name 'Madison Tyr'.
From that moment on, Madison became a central figure in Marthe's life, akin to the love he once knew.Marthe found joy in parenthood while balancing the roles of both mother and father, and Madison's unconditional acceptance helped Marthe break down emotional barriers.

While embracing his role as a parent to Madison, Marthe continued his service in the military, leveraging his Garlean citizenship to secure a transfer to Terncliff under the XIVth Imperial Legion in pursuit of tranquillity. Throughout, he endeavoured to shield Madison from the shadows that had enveloped his own existence, striving to provide a brighter path for his adopted son.Madison, raised with love and care, grew into a capable individual.Marthe later discovered that Madison possessed a unique power known as the Echo, sparking concern as the Garlean Empire viewed those with the Echo as threats. In an effort to protect Madison, Marthe sent him to the City-state of Ul'dah, believing it to be a safe haven far from the Empire's reach. Leaving for Eorzea

Shortly after Madison departed for Eorzea, Marthe experienced a vision of starshower falling from a burning sky, accompanied by the voice of Hydaelyn. It was then that Marthe discovered he, too, possessed the power of Echo.
Among his abilities were the capacity to perceive memories, comprehend foreign languages, and shield others from the influence of primals. Most notably, Marthe's Echo manifested in his remarkable skill to manipulate aether, greatly amplified in potency. Though often triggered by instinct, Marthe trained himself to control it.
Despite its advantages, the Echo brought headaches and confusion, blurring the lines between reality, memories, and foresight, frustrating Marthe to no end.Consulting a Garlean-coscripted scientist friend, confirmed his suspicions, recognizing the Echo within him, akin to his son.

Aware of the Empire's stance on those with the Echo, Marthe took precautionary measures to ensure his own safety. He chose to desert his post in Werlyt and defected to Eorzea, bringing along two loyal companions – a Werlytian Raen Au Ra and a mute Dalmascan Miqo'te – who now served as his trusted retainers.
Upon arriving in Ul'dah, Marthe's instinctual drive led him to seek out Madison amidst the bustling city's streets.▲ TOP | MENU ▼
